Department of Defense: Inter-MOS/RATING Policy

United States Department of Defense
Policy: Inter-MOS/RATING

The Department of Defense prohibits all conduct that undermines or threatens the stability of any one of it's Military Occupational Specialties/Ratings. All actions which serve to either demean, degrade, destabilize, or demoralize a MOS/Rating or it's members violates the Department of Defense values of Honor, Respect, and Commitment; failure to abide to these virtues in conduct between MOSs/Ratings and their members is subject to discipline. Conduct explicitly prohibited include the following:
 - A member of one MOS/Rating ACTIVELY recruiting a member from another MOS/Rating.
 - Openly insulting or degrading any one MOS or its members as a result of their being associated with that MOS/Rating whether in official rooms of the Department of Defense or on the forum of said institution.
 - Actively trying to undermine any efforts of any one MOS/Rating without defensible reasons; this includes interrupting any trainings, services, performances, or ceremonies hosted by a MOS/Rating or it's members or otherwise interferring with a MOS'/Ratings work or members without due cause.

*Note: This policy does not apply to the MA/IG/CID and SEALs/MSOR/SF MOS's/Ratings due to the nature of the MOS's/Ratings.

DOUBLE MOSing/Rating

The Department of Defense allows it's personnel to be active members of two MOSs/Ratings (in addition to being a Recruit Division Commander/Drill Instructor/Drill Sergeant). In order to do so, prospective members must go through the proper entry procedures and abide by the appropriate special protocols that double MOSing/Rating entails.

Entry Procedures

1. A member interested in double MOSing/Rating must first apply for and be accepted in a single MOS/Rating beyond the RDC/DI/DS MOS.

2. Members must submit a request to their initial commanding officer asking permission to apply and work for a second MOS in addition to their initial one.

3. If the initial commanding officer agrees, members may apply for another MOS/Rating. The initial commanding officer should also send a private message to the secondary commanding officer detailing their allowance of the member to double MOS/Rating.

*Note: This policy also applies to applications to the MA/IG/CID and SEALs/MSOR/SF MOS's/Ratings when already in a MOS/Rating.

Conduct Protocols

If both commanding officers allow the member to double MOS/Rating and the member is accepted into both MOS's/Ratings, he or she agrees to abide to the work delegated to them by their commanding officers. Failure to do so will subject them to the discipline proscribed by one or both of their commanding officers including termination from their MOS(s)/Ratings.

Military Occupational Speciality's/Ratings Leadership (Including the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, and Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership) may not double MOS/Rating with the exception of RDC/DI/DS.
